Because that is how carpet is sold. It arrives on a roll of fixed width - 12 ft is the US standard, with 13.5 ft, 15 ft and 4 m also common - and you buy a length off that roll. A room needing 189 sq ft of carpet does not cost you 189 sq ft: it costs you however much roll has to come off to cover it, including the part you trim away. That gap between the two is the waste you pay for, and it is the number an area-only calculator hides.

If a room is wider than the roll, one strip cannot cover it, so the app lays as many full-width strips as it takes and puts a seam between each pair. Two strips means one seam, three strips two seams. The seam-tape figure is the total running length of those seams, which is what you actually buy tape by.

It appears when the last strip is very narrow relative to the roll - the layout that tends to need a short cross seam meeting a long one in a T. The warning is geometry only. Not all carpet can be T-seamed: pile has to run the same way, patterns have to match across the joint, and some backings and warranties restrict seams outright. Treat the flag as a reason to ring your supplier, not as an instruction.

Auto buys the least roll, and picks fewer seams when two orientations need the same amount. Override it when something other than cost has to win: pile direction relative to the main light source or the traffic path, a pattern that has to run a particular way, or a hallway you do not want a cross seam in.

Waste is a percentage added on top of the computed roll length, adjustable from 5 to 20% and defaulting to 10%. Seam allowance is extra length added to each strip when there is more than one, so the strips can be trimmed and matched at the joint; it defaults to 3 inches. The allowance is applied before any pattern-repeat rounding, because the repeat has to land on the final cut length, not on an intermediate one.

Your supplier, on their own product. This app works from the roll width you selected and a rectangular room. Real jobs bring doorways, alcoves, transitions, out-of-square walls, usable width after trim, and the mill's own tolerance. Use the estimate to order and quote with confidence about the order of magnitude, then confirm the cut with whoever supplies the goods.

Give the estimate a name on the Calc tab and tap Save job. It appears on the Jobs tab with its dimensions, yardage, seam count and status. Tapping it loads the whole estimate back into Calc, ready to change and re-save.

Settings › Your quotes › Business name. It is stored on your device and printed on the PDF and share-image quotes. It is never sent to us.

Yes. The toggle at the top right of the Calc screen switches between feet-and-inches and metric, and Settings has the default. In imperial you get a tape-measure picker with sixteenths; areas are shown in both square yards and square feet.

Calculating is free and unlimited, forever - there is no paywall before you see a result. The free tier saves up to five jobs and works on the standard 12 ft (4 m) roll. Pro removes the save limit and unlocks multi-room jobs that combine into one roll order, the other and custom roll widths, pattern-repeat alignment, and PDF and share-image client quotes.

Yes, and it is the option we lead with. Pro is sold as a one-time lifetime purchase as well as monthly and yearly subscriptions. The lifetime option never renews and there is nothing to cancel.

Open the purchase screen and tap Restore purchases, signed in to the same Apple or Google account you bought with. Purchases follow the store account, not the device.

On iOS: Settings › your name › Subscriptions. On Android: Google Play › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends to avoid the next charge; you keep Pro until the period you already paid for runs out. Deleting the app does not cancel anything. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google, not by us - see the Terms of Use.

On your device, in a local database. There is no account and no server for this app, so we cannot read your jobs, clients or prices. Deleting a job removes it immediately; uninstalling removes everything. Keep in mind there is no cloud backup to restore from.

Anonymous usage and crash statistics, and nothing else. A completed calculation reports the number of rooms, the number of seams, the roll width and whether a pattern repeat was used. It never sends your dimensions, job or client names, business name, or any price. The Privacy Policy lists both sides in full.
