ASTRA
Terms of Service.
1. Acceptance
By installing or using the Astra iPhone application ("Astra", "the app") you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not install or use Astra.
2. The service
Astra lets you ask a question and read a written reply in one of six voices (Stoic, Jungian, Inner child, Future self, Villain, Tarot). Replies are generated on demand by a large language model (currently OpenAI's gpt-4o-mini) using the voice's system prompt, your question, and the prior turns of the same conversation as input. CodeEnsis Ltd. ("we", "our", "us") publishes Astra on the Apple App Store.
3. Reflection, not advice
Astra is for reflection only. It is not medical, psychological, psychiatric, legal, financial, professional, or relationship advice. Do not use it to make decisions where being wrong has real consequences. The replies are statistical predictions of language patterns; they are not statements of fact about you, your future, your relationships, or any other person.
If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, please contact local emergency services or a crisis line in your country. A list of international resources is available at findahelpline.com.
4. Your content
You retain ownership of the questions you ask and the saved readings on your device. By using Astra you grant us a non-exclusive licence to (a) transmit the text of your question and prior turns to the AI provider so a reply can be generated, and (b) cache the first reply of a new conversation server-side, keyed by normalised question text + voice + locale, as described in the Privacy Policy. We do not use your inputs or saved readings to train AI models.
5. AI output
The reply Astra returns is generated on demand by a third-party language model. Outputs can be inaccurate, contradictory between runs, or occasionally surprising in tone — especially in voices like Villain, which is by design an adversarial counter-voice. You are responsible for choosing a voice that suits you and for closing the app if a reply upsets or distresses you.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of Astra, except as expressly permitted by applicable law.
- Use Astra to harass, threaten, or target another person, including by asking the Villain (or any other voice) to write content about a real, named third party and sharing it publicly.
- Probe, scan, automate, or attempt to disrupt the CodeEnsis Cloud Functions that Astra communicates with, including by sending automated requests, exceeding daily quotas through workarounds, or attempting prompt-injection attacks against the voice prompts.
- Use Astra to generate, store, or distribute content that is illegal, infringing, sexually explicit, or harmful in your jurisdiction.
7. Quotas and pricing
The launch version of Astra is free and includes three new conversations per device per day, each with up to ten follow-up turns. Saved readings do not consume quota. If we introduce optional paid features in a future release, the purchase and renewal will be processed by Apple (App Store). Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; cancellation is managed in your App Store account settings. We do not store payment information.
8. Notifications
If you enable any local reminder, Astra schedules a notification on your device. You are responsible for ensuring iOS notification permissions, Do Not Disturb settings, and Focus modes allow Astra to deliver them. We do not guarantee delivery of any individual notification.
9. Privacy
Use of Astra is also governed by the Privacy Policy. Please review it before using the app.
10. Third-party services
Astra relies on Google Firebase (Cloud Functions) and OpenAI for generating replies. By using Astra you also agree to those providers' terms in respect of the data Astra transmits on your behalf, as described in the Privacy Policy.
11. Disclaimers
Astra is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that Astra will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any reply, saved reading, or notification will be accurate, available, or delivered on time.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, CodeEnsis Ltd. and its officers, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, including loss of data, missed events, or decisions made on the basis of a reply, arising from your use of or inability to use Astra.
Where law prohibits exclusion of certain warranties or limitations of liability, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by that law.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms as Astra evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated "Effective" date. Continuing to use Astra after a change means you accept the updated terms.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of England and Wales, except where mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence grants you the right to bring a claim locally.
