What you take to the store

Counted the way you lay it, not the way you guess it.

Most tile calculators divide the floor by the tile and add 10 %. This one lays every tile on the room, cuts the ones at the walls and around the vanity, and pairs narrow edge strips so two come out of one tile, the way a setter does.

Features

From the tape measure to the shopping cart.

01

A layout you drag

Put your finger on the floor and move the tile. The cut at every wall updates as you drag, and Centre puts equal cuts on both sides in one tap.

02

Sliver warnings

A strip under a quarter tile and under 2″ snaps when you cut it and shows at the wall. It is flagged in amber, on the drawing and in the list, before you set the first tile.

03

Every common pattern

Straight, 1/2 offset and 1/3 offset are laid tile by tile. Diagonal, herringbone and hexagon use the installers' waste rule and say so. Large format in a 1/2 offset gets the lippage warning.

04

Cutouts and fixtures

Vanities, tubs, shower trays and windows come off the count where they sit, and the tiles around them count as cuts. Pipes and drains add the extra pieces they cost.

05

Grout, thinset and trowel

Grout from the joint width and tile thickness, thinset from the trowel the tile size calls for, both rounded to the bags you buy. Your own bag sizes and prices if you have them.

06

Your tiles, your prices

Enter what is printed on the box: size, pieces or square feet per box, price per box, per tile or per square foot. The total is what you pay for whole boxes.

Questions

The short version.

When can I get it?

Tilecount is coming to Google Play first, in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The iPhone version follows after that.

How exact is the count?

For straight and offset layouts on a rectangular room it lays every tile and counts every cut, including the cuts around cutouts, and reuses an offcut only when two edge strips fit in one tile with a saw cut between them. Diagonal, herringbone and hexagon are estimates from the installers' waste rule, and the app says so. Spare for breakage is added on top; you set the percentage.

Do I need an account or a signal?

No. There is no account and nothing to log into, and it works offline. Your jobs and tiles are stored on your phone and are not uploaded anywhere. Details in the Privacy Policy.

What happens to my jobs if I don't buy Pro?

The free plan holds five saved jobs and five of your own tiles. Saved jobs never lock; Pro adds room for every customer and puts floors and walls in one job.
