Ridgecap
Roofing calculator & material estimate

Draw the roof. Get the order slip.

Measure the walls, pick the pitch, and Ridgecap unfolds the roof into its planes, then lists every bundle, roll and piece to order: shingles, metal, tile, sheets or built-up. With your prices, it tells you what the roof costs.

What you take to the supplier

An order slip, not a guess at squares.

Squares are where most roof calculators stop. Ridgecap keeps going to what the yard sells you: bundles of field shingles and ridge cap, starter, rolls of underlayment, pounds of nails and ten-foot pieces of drip edge. Each line shows the arithmetic behind it.

Example from the screenshots: a 40 × 30 ft house, gable roof at 6:12 with a 1 ft overhang. Prices are sample prices; you set your own per bundle, roll or piece, and add a crew price per square for the with-a-roofer total.

Features

From the tape measure to the client's quote.

01

The roof as a pattern

Gable, hip, shed or flat from the house walls, the overhang and the pitch. The roof unfolds into its planes like a sewing pattern, each with its area and slope length. Or type the area if you already measured it.

02

Drag the ridge

The side view shows the pitch as an angle you can drag. Read it as 6:12, in degrees or in percent, whichever your tools and your country use.

03

Five kinds of roofing

Asphalt shingles, metal panels, concrete and clay tile, corrugated and fibre-cement sheets, and built-up felt with gravel. Each counts its own accessories: cap, trim, battens, ridge pieces, asphalt.

04

Your prices, your total

Set the price of each item once in your currency and it carries to every job. Add labor and tear-off per square and tax, and see the do-it-yourself and the with-a-crew totals side by side.

05

Check a roofer's quote

Type the quote you were given and Ridgecap tells you how far it is from your own estimate for the same roof, so you know which questions to ask.

06

Jobs with a status

One job per roof: estimate, sent, won or lost. Everything stays on your phone, works offline, in feet or metres, with no account and no ads.

Materials and warnings

Every roof type is free. So is every warning.

Pick the material and Ridgecap checks the pitch against it while you change the roof. These are the products it counts and the lowest pitch each is checked against.

Too flat for the materialBelow its lowest pitch a material leaks. Ridgecap says so and asks you to pick another.
Low slope shinglesBetween 2:12 and 4:12 shingles need two layers of underlayment. Both are counted in.
Steep roofAbove 9:12 a roof is not walkable. Plan for a harness and roof jacks, or hire a crew.
Tile weightTile weighs several times more than shingles. Check that the framing can carry it.

An estimate for ordering, not a bid. Coverage differs by product: check the wrapper and the manufacturer's instructions before you buy. Local code and your building department have the final say.

Questions

The short version.

When can I get it?

Ridgecap is coming to Google Play first, in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The iPhone version follows.

Does it measure my roof from a photo or satellite?

No. You measure the walls of the house, which you can do from the ground, and pick the pitch. Ridgecap works out the roof from there, offline, with no subscription to an imagery service.

How accurate are the quantities?

As accurate as your measurements and the product's coverage. Ridgecap uses typical coverage for each product and a waste allowance by roof shape, and shows the arithmetic on every line. Check the coverage on the wrapper; you can change the waste yourself.

Do I need an account or a signal?

No. There is no account and it works offline. Your jobs, prices and client names are stored on your phone and are not uploaded anywhere. Details in the Privacy Policy.

What happens to my jobs if I don't buy Pro?

The free plan holds three saved jobs. Saved jobs never lock, and the estimate itself is never behind the paywall.
